Maarten de Waal of 3voor12 came to our show and had the worst time of his life....

ADOLF BUTLER
Die aansluiting is minder, of zeg maar niet aanwezig bij de laatste band van deze avond, het oerhollandse Adolf Butler. In de korte pauze voor de aanvang van dit concert wees een attente fotograaf mij erop dat mijn gulp openstond, die ik toen uiteraard, zoals dat hoort, netjes dichtritste. Gedurende het concert bleek mij echter al snel dat ik hem eigenlijk net zo goed open had kunnen laten staan; deze dracht paste prima bij de uitstraling van deze band. De frontman ging slechts gekleed in een rood-wit-blauwe boxershort (of was het een zwembroek?) en had wederom heel wat galm op zijn zang, niet om een spookachtig of vervreemdend effect teweeg te brengen, maar gewoon om zijn ongetwijfeld onbetekenende tekst te vervormen tot een soort van dronkemansgelal. Daarbij zwalkte hij wat door de zaal, klom op wat stoelen om er vervolgens weer vanaf te donderen, sleepte een tafel het podium op, enzovoort.

De begeleidende band, heel conventioneel bestaande uit een gitarist, een bassist en een drummer, gaf er af en toe bijna per ongeluk blijk van best te kunnen spelen, maar het was duidelijk niet het streven dit vanavond over te brengen. In plaats daarvan slingerde men wat loeiharde wanklanken de ruimte in. Sommige mensen schijnen niet goed te begrijpen wat het verschil is tussen experimenteel musiceren en gewoon herrie maken, maar wanneer men de eerste band van deze avond tegenover de laatste zet, zou het zelfs de meest doorgewinterde PVV-stemmer duidelijk moeten zijn wie hier echt iets proberen over te brengen en wie gewoon maar wat aan het doen zijn. Deze band is ronduit slecht, schaamteloos slecht, maar doet dat moedwillig, dus je zou dit ook als een compliment kunnen lezen. Het hersenloze ‘holland-holland’ gescandeer aan het eind van de set maakt het plaatje wat dat betreft helemaal compleet. Het merendeel van de nog aanwezigen (velen hadden het pand al voortijdig verlaten) leek er in elk geval niet veel mee te kunnen, maar ach, in een andere setting en met wat meer biertjes achter de kiezen was dit misschien best vermakelijk geweest. Op haar manier in elk geval een heel bijzondere afsluiter.

Father Futureback is in the process of screenprinting the sleeves for the split LP with The Roccos. It's a bit more work than he expected. But judging from this picture he sent me, they look pretty kRiIiIinZaAaNeOuS to me!

We are working on a releaseshow for this LP, hopefully in a month or so. And it looks like we'll be playing with the mighty Flipper at the Waterfront, Rotterdam, on November 20th. Beersike!
